Celeno Debuts Wi-Fi Technology for Carrier Grade HD Video Home Networking

Wi-Fi silicon solves home wiring for IPTV service providers

Ra’anana, Israel – September 8, 2008 - Celeno Communications, a leading provider of semiconductors for multimedia Wi-Fi home networking applications, today announced the availability of its new Wi-Fi System on a Chip (CL1300), enabling service providers to deliver the perfect user experience. Powered by the Celeno patent-pending OptimizAIR™ technology, the new CL1300 Wi-Fi chip Wi-Fi chip can reliably stream up to four concurrent and different HD streams with whole-home coverage while maintaining wire-like quality of experience.

Celeno’s new CL1300 technology will debut at IBC (Amsterdam, Sept 12-16). Cisco will also demonstrate at IBC applications enabled by Celeno’s Wi-Fi technology.

The reliable streaming of multiple HD streams throughout the house has long been the “holy grail” of Wi-Fi. Triple play service providers deploying IPTV services face significant technical and operational challenges to distribute HD video streams around the home. Wire-based technologies lack ubiquity and portability; are costly to install; and require expensive truck rolls. Furthermore, off the shelf 802.11n Wi-Fi silicon doesn’t provide the required coverage and robustness for HD video home networking.

Now, with Celeno’s carrier-grade Wi-Fi technology, service providers can quickly and easily deploy true concurrent, multi stream wireless HD video home networking over standards-based plug & play Wi-Fi – from any source or device. For example, it is possible to wirelessly stream HD video from a home gateway, network attached storage (NAS) or a digital video recorder (DVR) to any set top box, laptop or any other screen in any room in the home.

“The next wave of home connectivity applications will be heavily oriented toward support service provider deployments of entertainment-centric applications and networked consumer electronics, which emphasizes the absolute necessity for home networking solutions to support robust in-home throughput and quality-of-service measures,” said Kurt Scherf, vice president and principal analyst with Parks Associates. “With the number of in-home networked devices to top one billion by 2012, Celeno is ideally positioned to take advantage of new home networking rollouts, as its silicon is specifically designed to support high-quality and reliable streams of HD content.”

“Celeno’s Wi-Fi System on a Chip will help to enable the next evolution of wireless home networking and is designed from the ground up to solve the unique challenges of IPTV service providers and wireless HD video home networking requirements of performance, cost structure and truly open, client agnostic, architecture”, said Gilad Rozen, CEO of Celeno, “We are excited to witness the great endorsement of our technology from tier one operators and the adoption of our product by multiple manufactures.”

Celeno CL1300 Technology

The CL1300 is a standards-based 802.11 System on a Chip targeted at wireless video home networking access point applications which includes full 802.11 PHY and MAC functionality, a wireless network processor and an embedded CPU. The CL1300 chip may be integrated into consumer electronics devices such as IPTV home gateways; DOCSIS 3.0 gateways; NAS devices, multi-room DVR set top boxes or wireless video extenders and adapters. Powered by Celeno’s patent pending OptimizAIR™ technology, the solution supports extreme range of over 50 meters (150feet) through multiple walls and ceilings with enough throughput for 4 HD streams and with no packets loss or visual artifacts. The CL1300 also demonstrates superior performance with third party client chipsets, 802.11a/b/g or 802.11n and even with very low-cost single antenna client designs. This client agnostic, open architecture achieves scalable overall solution cost structure and supports future proof deployment evolution that may start with external adapters but then migrate towards Wi-Fi enabled set top boxes and other receiving devices. OptimizAIR™ integrates over a standard 802.11 core, patent pending Beam Forming MIMO to dramatically increase range, Channel Aware Transmission Shaping to boost robustness and zero out packet loss and Channel Aware Scheduling to achieve HD quality of service

Availability

The CL1300 and various reference designs are now available and shipping. The CL1300 will be demonstrated at the IBC 2008 show, Celeno Booth 4.C81. Selected partners’ designs enabled by the CL1300 silicon will be on display as well. Celeno will also be included in the Cisco demo show case at IBC, Booth 1.D71. The Cisco demo will include two separate demonstrations featuring the Celeno Wireless home networking technology: the Connected Home demo and the IPTV entertainment experience demo.
