Satellite TV Broadcasters

Market Outlook

To meet subscribers demand, Satellite TV Broadcasters need the ability to feed their linear broadcast TV service to multiple TV sets around the house. Satellite TV Broadcasts are also taking proactive measures designed to enhance their competitive position and are deploying Multi-Room DVR applications. Accordingly, many satellite broadcasters are enhancing the satellite set top box with IP interfaces and leveraging IP Home networking to easily connect multiple set top boxes around the house to the master satellite set top box. Satellite TV Broadcasters are also enriching their service offerings with new Video on Demand (VoD) services that often are deployed collaboratively through the Telco Operator Broadband infrastructure. With respect to these service offerings, the Satellite broadcaster faces the same home wiring challenges as the Telco operator. Carrier-grade wireless home networks provide the simplest solution for quickly connecting the streaming IP VoD traffic from the Residential Gateway to the rest of the set top boxes around the house.

Common Applications

  • Linear TV distribution – Streaming incoming video from DBS-IP STB to multiple IP Set top boxes located in areas of the house that do not have access to coax sockets.
  • VoD distribution – Streaming incoming video from Residential Gateway to multiple Set top Boxes around the house.
  • Multi-Room DVR – Streaming stored content on the master MR-DVR to multiple slave Set Top Boxes around the house for time-shifted and place-shifted viewing.
